What is a PPM file (a file with file extension PPM)?
Files that contain the .ppm file extension are most commonly used for portable pixmap images. These uncompressed 24-bit color images are saved in a text-based format with each pixel being assigned a number ranging from 0 to 65536.
Within each PPM file, each number defines the color of an associated pixel. The PPM files also contain information about the height and width of the associated image.
The .ppm file extension is also used by the PPMd software application. These PPM files contain archive files that are created by the program.
The Insight II software application also uses the .ppm file suffix for proton chemical shifts files.
