What is a POI file (a file with file extension POI)?

Files that contain the .poi file extension are most commonly used for "point of interest" files for a variety of Magellan Maestro personal GPS devices. These devices are used to plan routes and navigate to destinations. For example, when a user gets into his or her vehicle and wants to know how to get from point A to point B, the Magellan Maestro would direct the user, showing them how to arrive at their destination.

The POI files that are used by these devices are point of interest files that store details about a particular point of interest, including the name and location of the associated destination.
