What is a ODF file (a file with file extension ODF)?

ODF is an acronym for OpenDocument Format. This file format is used by the OpenOffice and StarOffice software applications. These programs use the .odf file extension to save compound documents that contain raw text and graphics.

The OpenOffice and StarOffice applications also use the .odf file extension to save OpenDocument formula files which contain spreadsheet information created in the spreadsheet applications that are included in these programs.

The .odf file extension is also used for the BattleZone gaming software. These ODF files contain cartographer guild files.

The OnkoS software also uses the .odf file suffix for the data files that are referenced by the software.
