What is a DV file (a file with file extension DV)?

Files that contain the .dv file extension are most commonly used for video files that have been saved on the DV tapes that are used by a number of digital camcorders.

The videos that have been captured by these DV cameras can be saved to a computer hard drive in the DV file format. These files can then be imported to a variety of image-editing applications and the file format can be changed to a more versatile video file format for ease of distribution.

The .dv file extension has also been known to be used for DESQview software application for the script files that are created by the program.
