What is a DIST file (a file with file extension DIST)?
Files that contain the .dist file extension are most commonly associated with Mac OS X software applications. The Mac OS X installer uses the DIST files to customize the installation of a program on a user's operating system.
The DIST files that are used for Mac OS X applications are only used by versions 10.4 and later of the Mac OS X. The DIST files (also referred to as distribution scripts) are often created by the PackageMaker software.
The .dist file extension is also used by the SAM software application. These DIST files contain the scoring files that are created by the SAM software.
